College of Medicine

The College of Medicine was established in 2004. Since its founding, the College has been known as one of the leading medical institutes in Karbala. The academic program at the School of Medicine usually takes six years. The first year consists of general education courses taken on the Campus. Yet, even in these early years of study, the early exposure program exposes students to actual medical practice. The study seeks the thorough psychological preparation of medical students by practical experience of the most innovative modern medical team structure and exposure to medical-related professional occupations other than that of the medical doctor. From the second to the final year, students pursue specialized medical studies and training at Al Hussein General Hospital in Karbala and Kuffa Teaching Hospital in Najaf Governorate. Courses include basic and clinical medical studies in the following fields: Surgery, Paediatrics, Biochemistry, Medicine, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Gynecology Obstetric Pharmacology, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Pathology. The College provides M.B.Ch.B Degree. There are currently 126 undergraduate students whom are taught by 50 specialized academic staff, some of them gained their specialties from well-known British Universities with FRCS and MRCP certifications. The curriculum encourages students to actively investigate areas of interest rather than passively acquiring knowledge from the academic staff. The College of Medicine is continuing to build on its current successes with applications rising in all subject areas.
